In NE Amorgos on the slopes of mountain Krikelos a plateau is formed. The area is known as Theologos from the church that is there dedicated to the Evangelist John. According to tradition, the church was built by a captain who made a promise to the saint to save his ship which was sailing in the dangerous sea area in the northeast region of Aegiali.

The church is a Byzantine Vasiliki with a dome, built with limestone, a material which does not exist on the island and probably transferred from the captain himself from Milos island or from the nearby island of Patmos.

The byzantine monastery is within one hour’s walk from the village Lagkada.
